Logan and I have decided it’s time to reduce our typewriter collection from 10 or so (L: “Who’s counting, right? That’s the important thing.”) to a more reasonable 4 or 5. As you can imagine for people who own 10 typewriters (mostly desktops) in a one bedroom apartment, they are difficult to part with and we want to be sure they go to good homes and will see some use (rather than being dissected for parts, jewelry, or the like).
Here’s the one most at risk of being dissected, since it still has original glass keys from the 1930s. The Royal KMM is, as Logan says, “the best typewriter I’ve ever touched with my fingers”, with great details like a seal on the back that depicts a Royal No. 10, the previous model. They were so durable that they were advertised as nearly indestructible and showed some of them being dropped out of planes!
Why are we parting with such treasures, you wonder? Space, for one, but we also have a number of other models passed down from grandparents, etc. that have higher sentimental value.
We’ve listed them on Craigslist hoping we won’t have to ship them, so especially if you’re in the Birmingham area and could use a typewriter in your life, please get in touch! We will also ship to good homes.
You can find the Royal KMM listed here for $150, ~$40 for shipping depending on distance. Drop me an email and let me know you’re a tumblr reader if you’re interested!
As Glynnis said, the only reason I’m willing to part with this guy is because my granddad didn’t own it. It was a miraculous discovery and has traveled to Portland and back. Take something out of my closet! Buy it! I’m in Montgomery regularly if the Birmingham area isn’t big enough for you.
