EDIT: Well, that’s cool—the lower fidelity in youtube makes the really delicate fade-ins on the guitar during the chorus blend right in with the harmonica tone. What beautiful things lofi teaches us.

Japan - “Transmission”

A minute into this LP (okay, that’s the cover to the title track’s single release, but, c’mon, which one would you think I’d post? This frumpy ol’ cover, or one that puts a hand in the fly of Sticky Fingers? It sold for a reason. Sayin’.) and I’m already wondering why in the hell I’ve waited this long to get in to Japan. I mean, what a group of weirdos this band is. Watch out for that over-mixed slap-bass fill, though.

EDIT: The more I listen to this record (Okay, I’m just on track four now) the more I think it’s what Bowie would’ve sounded like in ‘78 if he’d stopped innovating in ‘74. Or maybe what the New York Dolls would’ve sounded like if they survived by not being themselves anymore. So far neither of these things seems like a bad idea in the hands of Japan.

Also, I now realize that tumblr was gonna go ahead and show you the album art connected to the file, and that’s fine, but that didn’t tell you what the title of the album is! The single does! So, take that!

Taken from the soundtrack to this Italian film about a man who makes a deal with the devil to stay young forever. 10 of the tracks from the score were released as a library record on C.A.M., I think this was on that extremely rare LP. De Luca sadly died quite young.

Time to track this down, because IT IS AWESOME.

Killer downer psych folk track from Iowa full of organ, thick bass fuzzy guitar. Teen band who recorded their first 45 in high school. The main man, Steve Fox, wrote and recorded the full length after high school with various band members. Steve completely fell off the map afterwards. Bummer.
